The Truth About Senior Dating

Some may have the misconception that those over a certain age do not date. A recent study done by Match.com, however, has shown that what we think we know about senior dating is completely wrong.

In the last five years, 55+ users have been the fastest growing demographic in all relationship-oriented sites (eharmony.com).

Among the findings listed is an item that says people over the age of 60 are the group that reported feeling the happiest and least stressed about their relationship status.

Seniors Know What They Want

Seniors online are more likely to be upfront and honest about themselves and what they are looking for in a partner, unlike younger singles, who may enhance the truth about themselves a bit. Instead of playing games, the older crowd tends to seek someone who’s compatible with them on all levels.

The aforementioned study included eight factors that a senior should include on his or her dating profile if they should be going online searching for a date. These were the most cited attributes that seniors would look for in a potential partner:

• Affection
• Intelligence
• Independence
• Your Goals
• Spirituality
• Political Beliefs
• Compatibility and Companionship Preferences
• Your Overall Health and Activity Status

The next time you are browsing a dating site, pay attention to your own interests. Do you find yourself searching for someone with these traits? Are you wishing that the profiles you see would explain about these areas a bit more?

It’s great to know that the option of dating is not closed to seniors. Actually, as this study shows, seniors’ experience may make them more successful in dating than younger people are!
